Closing Delta Southern’s branch bank in Friars Point appears to be a done deal, but in doing so DSB may not be living up
to its mission.

Southern Bancorp, the parent organization of Delta Southern, formed a partnership to “bring economic opportunity to
those who need it most.”

Arkansas Assets and Opportunity Scorecard 2005 news conference at state Capitol

Local Red Cross chapter distributes more than $200,000 to hurricane

The Diamond Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has distributed more than $200,000 in aid to persons displaced by hurricanes, provided casework to more than 400 families and fed more than 8,000 meals and snacks.

New condos mean more independence for nine Group Living clients

Nine proud homeowners are settled into their brand new condominiums at Lucas Gardens. Not only are they first-time home buyers, they are all over 40.

The residents of the project are clients of Group Living Inc., and they are fulfilling Group Living’s goal to help developmentally disabled persons reach their highest level of independence.

Banks in Hot Springs

Jefferson Bancshares, the Pine Bluff bank holding company that owns Pine Bluff National Bank, plans to invest $5.1 million in a new “community bank” to be chartered in Hot Springs, CEO John Garrison said.

“It would really be driven by Hot Springs businesspeople but would be supported by Jefferson Bancshares,” Garrison said.

Jefferson will seek to raise an additional $4.9 million in startup capital for a bank to be called Hot Springs

Banks working with hurricane refugees in Arkadelphia

Officials at several area banks say they are doing whatever can be done to assist persons who are in Clark County due to Hurricane Katrina.

Elk Horn Bank and Trust, Regions Bank and Summit Bank have all agreed to waive the fees for ATM use and check-cashing services for those people who have been displaced by the hurricane.

Cherry St. Historic District gets HUD funds for roof repairs

The Central Arkansas Resource Conservation and Development Council Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization with offices in Helena and Conway, has assisted the Cherry Street Historic District in obtaining Housing and Urban Development project funds to repair the roofs of buildings within the historic district.
