Cherry St. Historic District gets HUD funds for roof repairs

The Central Arkansas Resource Conservation and Development Council Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization with offices in Helena and Conway, has assisted the Cherry Street Historic District in obtaining Housing and Urban Development project funds to repair the roofs of buildings within the historic district.

New vision for the Delta Phillips County seeks to be area’s model

In five short years, Phillips County “will be a model community for the Delta” - one of the most depressed regions in the nation.

That ambitious goal is the result of 10 months of planning by more than 300 residents and was announced Monday to a gathering that packed the Malco Theater.

Strategic Community Plan revealed

The Strategic Community Plan for Phillips County 2005-2010 was officially unveiled Monday at the Historic Malco Theater during a news conference with banners announcing “Together We Can.”

Several guest speakers gave their plans for the future of the county to a full house. The primary plan centers on economic development for tourism, business and job establishment, housing development and redevelopment, education, leadership development, and health care.
