Delta Southern Bank pledges $200,000 to B.B. King Museum

The Board of Directors of Delta Southern Bank is pleased to have been able to help the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center meet the terms of a $2.5 million challenge from Jim Barksdale. Mr. Barksdale had pledged the funds to the B.B. King Museum provided their board of directors raise $500,000 in matching funds.

A Slow Demise in the Delta

From 2001 to 2005, the federal government spent nearly $1.2 billion in agricultural subsidies to boost farmers’ incomes and invigorate local economies in this poverty-stricken region of the Mississippi Delta.

Most residents are black, but less than 5 percent of the money went to black farmers. They own relatively little land, and so they generally do not qualify for the payments.

Delta Southern Bank Receives Honor

Congratulations to Delta Southern Bank in Ruleville and Drew! The community development financial institution was recently awarded an “outstanding” rating on its Community Reinvestment Act Audit by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Very few banks receive the “outstanding” rating.

Group fighting bank closure

to its mission.

Southern Bancorp, the parent organization of Delta Southern, formed a partnership to “bring economic opportunity to

Elaine to Share $20,000 Southern Bancorp grant

Phillip N. Baldwin, president and CEO of Southern Bancorp (Southern), announced today that three rural communities (Elaine, Arkansas and Lula and Lambert, Miss.) will be the collective beneficiaries of a $20,000 grant provided by Southern’s Small Cities Technical Assistance Program.

Arkadelphia Bank to Receive $1.8 Million Grant

Southern Development Bancorporation of Arkadelphia will receive a $1.8 million equity grant to help the bank acquire additional branches to provide housing, business and consumer lending in the Mississippi Delta region, the state’s Democratic Congressional delegation announced Thursday.
