Bill Creating Arkansas Housing Fund Heads To Committee

Housing Arkansas, a coalition of affordable housing advocates in the private, government and nonprofit sectors, held a news conference on Monday, March 2 to highlight legislation that would create a statewide housing trust fund for Arkansas. The trust fund would allow access to quality housing for a broad range of Arkansans.

Residents Take Advantage of Free Tax Preparation Service

A steady stream of people eager to get their taxes prepared for free showed up Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center.

The event, dubbed Super Saturday, was a joint effort by volunteers from the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition, Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now, IRS Stakeholder, Partnerships, Education and Communication Disability Initiative, St. James United Methodist Church, Southern Good Faith Fund and Pine Bluff Weed & Seed/Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc.

Free tax filing and assistance helps low-income families file taxes, get faster returns

KIPP Charter School Awarded $2.6 Million for Delta Expansion

KIPP Delta College Preparatory School of Helena announced Tuesday that the Charter School Growth Fund has awarded the school a $2.6 grant, which will be used for expansion.

Officials from KIPP, which stands for Knowledge Is Power Program, say the award is the largest the school has received to date.

Delta Bridge Project announces $161,502 grant to enhance Teach for Arkansas program in Phillips County

The Delta Bridge Project has awarded a $161,502, two-year grant to enhance the Teach for Arkansas program and address the shortage of highly qualified kindergarten through sixth grade teachers in Phillips County, Delta Bridge Project Steering Committee Chairman Elijah Mondy announced today.

Entergy’s Power to Care program helps less fortunate pay utility bill

Delta Yams Experience growing pains already

Phillips County’s newest industry Delta Yams is already getting ready for an expansion and this comes after only a year of operation.

Over a million dollars has been made available through a grant of $700,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce-Economic Development Administration and another $300,000 from the state Department of Economic Development for the expansion of Delta Yams, located on Highway 49, just west of Barton.

SGFF wins award from Entergy

On Wednesday, September 10, 2008, Entergy Arkansas presented Southern Good Faith Fund with the “Making Things Brighter Award in Community Leadership” at their Low-Income Advocates Leadership and Community Development Conference. This is an annual award to recognize contributions made in improving the lives of low-income families. SGFF is the first organization to receive this award, which has historically been given to an individual.
