U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln have announced that $250,000 in federal funds for Save the Children, a juvenile delinquency prevention program for the Helena-West Helena area, has passed the senate and is on the way to a joint Senate-House committee. The committee will negotiate differences between the two respective bills and produce a final conference report that Pryor says will be approved.

Governor appoints Boone to Board of Review

Gov. Mike Beebe has appointed Michael Boone of Helena-West Helena to the Board of Review. Boone replaces Norith Eillison.
His appointment expires Jan. 14, 2011.

Delta Bridge Project announces grant to fund oilseed processing facility feasibility study

Shawn Payne, Delta Bridge Project Steering Committee member and Jack Hornor, Economic Development Goal Team chairman announced $41,500 in grant funding to the Phillips County Chamber of Commerce to conduct a feasibility study for an oilseed processing facility. The facility would be built adjacent to the bio-diesel facility that is currently being constructed in Phillips County.

BDC to co-sponsor child care licensing workshop

The Business Development Center, a program of the Southern Good Faith Fund, is co-sponsoring a “child care licensing” workshop. The workshop will be presented by a Department of Health and Human Services licensing specialist and will inform childcare workers of the requirements needed in order to start or expand a home-based or commercial child care business.
