Members of Arkadelphia’s Board of Directors spent most of the day Saturday meeting in special session to discuss the future of Arkadelphia. Sessions included discussion of the Clark County Strategic Plan and its applications to the city and a discussion of revenues and the allocation of funds.
The guest speaker for the luncheon was Phil Baldwin, CEO of Southern Bancorp. His topic was “What Can Be?”

The list of projects in Clark County’s Strategic Plan that will benefit Ouachita Baptist University is “very exciting,” said Dr. Rex Horne, president of Ouachita.
Horne said he was pleased that OBU and Henderson State University partnered with Southern Bancorp and other entities to sponsor the strategic planning process. The 15 months of work have created valid ideas for improvements, he said.

Baptist Health salutes Dorothy Stuck with the Amazing Spirit Award. The award goes to those who embrace life by remaining active, healthy, and focusing on personal growth at 55 and beyond.
Most people wouldn’t expect Dorothy Stuck of Hot Springs to be white-water rafting at the age of 86 and she isn’t. She did that when she was much younger, a mere 84.

The making of Clark County’s Strategic Plan was not a new concept. A similar process was completed in 2005 in Phillips County, and the results are already being seen, said Phil Baldwin, president and CEO of Southern Bancorp. Funds and personnel from Southern aided both Phillips and Clark County in developing their plans.

It moved into the Delta and began focusing on community development in the most impoverished areas. The Clark County Strategic Plan has 16 goals and action steps that pertain to Gurdon, but the residents and officials of the town are already taking action to make positive changes, Mayor Clayton Franklin said.
“Our cleanup campaign has already started,” Franklin said. “We’ve removed 17 old structures in town and have that many more to go.”

“Compromise is the key to accomplishing anything, not just in politics, but in life,” former Gov. Jim Guy Tucker said Saturday night. Tucker, Arkansas governor from 1993-1996, was the keynote speaker at the 12th annual Clinton Day Dinner, a fund-raiser for the Clark County Democratic Party.
