Bill Creating Arkansas Housing Fund Heads To Committee

Housing Arkansas, a coalition of affordable housing advocates in the private, government and nonprofit sectors, held a news conference on Monday, March 2 to highlight legislation that would create a statewide housing trust fund for Arkansas. The trust fund would allow access to quality housing for a broad range of Arkansans.

KIPP expands educational opportunities in the Delta

The Knowledge Is Power Program, also known as KIPP, is expanding its educational operation in the Arkansas Delta. Currently, the program has a free open-enrollment public charter middle school and high school in Helena-West Helena.

The Power to Care program eases high cost of summer electric bills for many Arkansans

With summer temperatures reaching triple digits, many Arkansans have trouble paying their electric bills. Entergy Arkansas’ The Power to Care program, administered by Southern Good Faith Fund, provides financial assistance to eligible Entergy customers who are elderly or disabled and meet income guidelines.

Another Group Pitches New Severance Tax Ideas

The debate over increasing the severance tax on natural gas is building momentum in Arkansas.

Right now, gas companies pay Arkansas three-tenths of a cent for every 1,000 cubic feet taken from the Fayetteville shale play. The rate is one of the lowest in the country.
