The Economic Development Corp. of Clark County now has banking and accounting services after the board approved proposals for them Tuesday night.
Summit Bank of Arkadelphia will provide two accounts, checking and money market, for the corporation’s funds. Summit presented the best proposal for the services, said Randy Turner, finance chairman EDCCC.

A plan to revitalize Clark County written by 500 residents of the southwestern Arkansas county over the past year and a half was hailed Monday by Gov. Mike Beebe as a model for community development statewide.
Beebe joined community leaders for the unveiling of the county’s strategic plan, modeled after the Delta Bridge Project in Phillips County, spearheaded by Arkadelphia-based Southern Bancorp.

A $25,000 grant presented to the City of Gurdon on Friday, March 2, will allow city officials to begin cleaning up abandoned and run-down properties around town.
A check for the grant was presented to Gurdon Mayor Clayton Franklin by Phil Baldwin, president of Southern Bancorp, and Dr. Wesley Kluck, vice president for institutional advancement at Ouachita Baptist University and co-chair of the Clark County Strategic Planning initiative.

December’s Clark County Strategic Planning session took place Tuesday night at Gurdon City Hall, in an effort to more closely involve Gurdon residents in the process.
A similar town meeting was held in Amity Monday night. Though no new information was presented at either meeting, residents were updated on the plan and told how it should ultimately result in an expanded economic base.

The strategic planning process can move forward; Taimerica Management Co. has been chosen, at a meeting on Tuesday, as the facilitator for Clark County’s Strategic Development Plan.
The Clark County Strategic Development Committee’s goal is to improve and enhance six aspects of Clark County, including economic development, education, health care, housing, tourism and leadership.
Tuesday night’s meeting was the third concerning the plan.

The Diamond Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has distributed more than $200,000 in aid to persons displaced by hurricanes, provided casework to more than 400 families and fed more than 8,000 meals and snacks.
