CCSP economic group identifies county’s strengths

Interstate 30, the railroad and the airport were named Clark County’s top strengths during a survey of county residents, said members of the economic development subcommittee of the county’s Strategic Planning Committee.

The group met Wednesday afternoon at Arkadelphia Town Hall and discussed the results of the survey and “prioritizing” the wish list.

Planning commissioners hear from Bunn about Gardens development

Members of the Arkadelphia Planning Commission approved preliminary plans for a retirement community being developed by a local builder after no one objected during a public hearing Thursday afternoon.

Billy Bunn of Bunn Builders presented plans for The Gardens, a planned unit development to be occupied by persons over 55. The unit will be constructed on land that connects 26th Street to Walnut Street.

Clark County Plan: 2006 Highlights

The year 2006 began in Clark County with a burn ban and sales tax refunds and ended with a cooperative effort of county residents to plan for growth and development.

In January, residents of Arkadelphia applied for refunds of excess sales tax collected by the city for projects at the Youth Sports Complex.

Citizens Hear of Potential for Growth

Residents of Gurdon were encouraged to “dream big” by those coordinating the Clark County strategic planning process during a town hall meeting at Gurdon City Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Ed Bee, facilitator for the Clark County Strategic Planning committee, made a presentation to those in attendance which highlighted the over process of strategically planning the community and pointed out somekey attractions and disadvantages to Gurdon specifically during the meeting.

Gurdon hears update on strategic planning

December’s Clark County Strategic Planning session took place Tuesday night at Gurdon City Hall, in an effort to more closely involve Gurdon residents in the process.

A similar town meeting was held in Amity Monday night. Though no new information was presented at either meeting, residents were updated on the plan and told how it should ultimately result in an expanded economic base.

At CCSP event, participation agreed ‘critical’

The setting was more “party” than planning, Tuesday evening at the Captain Henderson House as leaders of the Clark County Strategic Planning Committee updated community residents on the progress of the process.

The “real work” of the Clark County Strategic Planning Committee will begin in earnest in January, said Ed Bee, president of Taimerica Inc., the firm hired to facilitate the development of the plan.

Strategic planners talk about local real estate prices

Real estate prices, the availability of housing and a possible means of keeping more elderly residents in Arkadelphia were among the topics discussed at Monday night’s Housing Subcommittee meeting.

The subcommittee is part of the Clark County Strategic Planning process. The meeting was held at the Caplinger Airway Science Center at Henderson State University.

Arkansas SBDC Recognizes Entrepreneurial Support

The City of Arkadelphia is the first recipient of the Arkansas Entrepreneurial Community of the Year Award presented by the Arkansas Small Business Development Center (ASBDC). The award recognizes Arkadelphia’s organized efforts to assist and encourage entrepreneurial activities.

Arkadelphia’s community and economic development strategy includes nurturing new and existing small businesses.

Training prepares subcommittees

The six subcommittees of the Clark County Strategic Plan are prepared to begin working, thanks to a training session Monday afternoon. Ed Bee, director of Taimerica, the firm hired to facilitate the planning process, gave the leaders of the subcommittees some guidance about their duties.

Taimerica: Clark County population growth stagnant

September 13th, 2006


Clark County has seen virtually no population growth in the last 10 years, according to information gathered by Taimerica, a consulting company hired to facilitate the Clark County Strategic Planning process.

Ed Bee, president of Taimerica, presented the information to the planning committee Tuesday night at Central Primary School.
